This most recent week, Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick has been strongly rumored to leave the club. Flick’s next step would be to the national team as they look to fill their coaching vacancy when current manager Joachim Lowe steps down. With Bayern now knocked out of the Champions League for this season, his decision seems imminent. His departure though, would force both parties down into unchartered territories. What could come next?
For Bayern, a rebuild period may be inevitable. With their almost unprecedented success in the past season, though, they will move on very satisfied, and, almost, seamlessly. Hansi Flick’s arrival as a temporary coach after Niko Kovac’s sacking saw Bayern achieve new heights, winning the German treble and dominating their opposition. Along the way, they were not complacent and made many reinforcements to their already strong team. Arrivals such as the notable Leroy Sane, Douglas Costa, and Eric Choupo-Moting in addition to potential stars in Marc Roca and Tanguy Nianzou have allowed Bayern to provide a basis for a team beyond the present.
With a new coach, there will certainly be enough building blocks in place to allow for success. For the new coach, though, there are a few options. The German giants immediately attarct the German geniuses and perhaps the top name on the list is Julian Naglesmann of RB Leipzig. The young 33 year old brainiac has enjoyed the business-like setup of the RedBull group and has had disposable talent at his fingertips for his tenure there. At Bayern, he already has talent, and will have the money to get any more he wishes. His attacking, team-style play could flourish with a club hungry for silverware.
Another name on the shortlist would be Italian Massimiliano Allegri, who has been unemployed since his success at Juventus through 2019. Allegri is a more defensive, disciplined coach who could also tap into Bayern’s current aggression to have great success. In spite of this, Allegri has never been too fond of leaving his homeland, nor has Bayern been the most willing of deviating from a German gaffer.
Regardless, their enormous pool of talent and large amounts of resources will render whatever manager they hire capable of greatness.
As for Hansi Flick and the national team, a much needed refresh would be upon them. After winning the 2014 World Cup, their trajectory has been rather low. Most recently, a 6-0 defeat to Spain coupled with a shocking defeat in qualifiers against North Macedonia signal warnings for Lowe and the players. The potential arrival of Flick allows newer guys to mold into a new system from the beginning. And newer guys Germany has plenty of: Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Robin Gosens, and so many more. Hansi Flick has weapons to choose.
In football there is always another challenge; both the club and the manager will take it headfirst with the confidence from the back of their great success.
