Rest in Peace Tommy Lasorda, A True Dodger Legend

Reading Time: 2 minutesEarlier this week, Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda passed away due to a heart attack at age 93. Not surprisingly, this death was heavily mourned by the baseball community. Tommy Lasorda was the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1976 to 1996. He spent 71 years with the franchise, and it started in 1949 as a pitcher with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. He made his debut in 1954, and also made one start in 1955. He set a record that day, although not a good one. It was most wild pitches in one inning,...

Seven Ideas for the Cleveland Indians Name Change

Reading Time: 2 minutesAfter 105 years, the Cleveland Indians are changing their names. Last year, Chief Wahoo went out. This year, the whole name is gone. But what will their new name be? Here are some suggestions: Cleveland Baseball Team Hear me out. Washington’s NFL team changed their name, and have become a playoff contender. Maybe it’ll work for Cleveland. The Baseball Team is right to the point. Cleveland Wild Things A reference to the classic movie Major League. Charlie Sheen’s character, Rick Vaughn, is nicknamed Wild Thing. What if the Eagles stuck with Nick Foles?

Reading Time: 2 minutesIt’s the end of the 2018-2019 season. The Patriots have just won the Super Bowl. The Eagles have won a playoff game, led by QB Nick Foles (and with a little help from Cody Parkey). There’s a debate. Should the Eagles stick with Carson Wentz (who almost won MVP in 2017), but got hurt before the playoffs, or choose Nick Foles (who took over for Wentz and then led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win)? Now, the Eagles stuck with Wentz, who was just benched for rookie, Jalen Hurts. But what if they go...

Texas Basketball Is Back: Why The ’20-’21 Longhorns Could Make A Deep Postseason Run

Reading Time: < 1 minutesThe University of Texas-Austin might be a basketball school now. Their football team is still good, just not great. But their basketball team… wow! Coming off a win over North Carolina in the Maui Invitational, I’m here to show you that Texas, is back (but in basketball). A lot of people wrote Texas off in their matchup against Indiana. What did Texas do, you may ask? Wipe the floor with them. Then, fans said UNC would beat them. But no, Matt Coleman hit a game-winner and Texas won the Maui Invitational. This Texas team is...

Interview with Bailey From Foolish Baseball: The Mastermind Behind The Widely Successful YouTube Channel

Reading Time: 4 minutesI am subscribed to around 50 YouTube channels. Among them is Foolish Baseball, a channel that is about… well… baseball. With over 140,000 subscribers, Foolish Baseball is one of the more popular baseball channels to be found. Here’s Bailey, the mastermind behind it all: Question: What draws you to less mainstream players such as Tim Locastro (an Outfielder on the Diamondbacks who can steal first base) and Rod Barajas (a catcher with the inability to throw batters out)? Answer: They’re outliers. It’s that simple. I, and most other sports fans, are drawn to athletes that are extreme in one way or another. It explains the collective fascination with everyone from Bartolo Colón to Terrance Gore. For me, this manifests in talking about players that are excellent or terrible at one thing. In addition to Locastro and Barajas, Jeff Mathis also fits this description. Any player that pushes the sport to an extreme is probably worth talking about. Question: How do you come up with ideas for videos? Answer: I’m sometimes inspired while reading about baseball on sites like FanGraphs or Baseball Prospectus. It’s not that I scan text looking specifically for video topics, but certain words and concepts can definitely trigger ideas. I’ve heard similar stories about comedians who look for joke-writing inspiration while flipping through the dictionary. I think some of the best premises for...
