Well, Jamal Adams had his wish come true. The All-Pro safety, formerly a member of the New York Jets, has a new team. He has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks for Bradley McDougald, a first-round pick in 2021, a third-round pick in 2021, and another first-round pick in 2022. The Seahawks also receive a fourth-round pick. Here are my thoughts on the trade for both sides.
From Seattle’s perspective, they get an absolute game-changer on defense. Jamal Adams is the best safety in the league, and fills a need for Seattle in the secondary. Seattle’s secondary was roasted by Davante Adams in the playoffs last year, and even though Adams is not a cover corner, he will make QBs think twice about throwing it on his side of the field. Also, considering the Seahawks first-round picks would probably be late first anyway, they gave it up for one of the best defenders in football. This almost certainly cements their case as Super Bowl contenders.
The Jets also did an amazing job with this trade. First of all, they traded Adams out of their conference which was an incredibly smart move. Secondly, they got a HAUL for him. Two first-rounders, plus a third-rounder? They are set up nicely for the future to trade for a star, or stand pat and build for the future. Furthermore, they got a solid safety in Bradley McDougald who can potentially start alongside Marcus Mays. This also saves the Jets a ton of money, as Jamal is due for a huge payday. Considering Jamal Adams is one of the elite defenders in today’s game the Jets did a more than stellar job getting a huge return for him so they can build for the future.
This is a win for both sides, as the Seahawks make a move to win now, and try to get to the Super Bowl. The Jets traded a disgruntled star but got a lot of value in this trade. We shall see how this works out for both sides in the future.
