Sebastian Vettel, a four-time world champion is on the edge of a switch from Red to Pink. With rumors of the 33-year-old signing a contract with racing point in Belgium to lock him in to the Aston Martin Formula 1 team.
It’s alleged Vettel would have to take a pay cut of $15 million, half of what he gets from Ferrari. It’s a bullish-yet-awkward move from Racing Point with incumbent Sergio Perez also holding a contract and a costly settlement, potentially the only way to oust him despite his loyal years of service.
The move for Sebastian will properly move him on, psychologically at least, from his unfulfilling Ferrari chapter. The German had great hope from joining the Scuderia in 2015 as a four-time world champion with the stars aligned for magic at Maranello. Five years later and his exit is confirmed and he will most likely close out 2020 as a disappointment. The 2020 season of Ferrari is to be particularly painful given the prancing horses woefully uncompetitive car only starting above 10th in one out of the six races this year. Missing Q3 in qualifying three times. His best result has been 6th in Hungary where both the Ferraris were lapped for the first time since Spain 2011.
The frustration has been clear and not just over team radio “They are in that period of a divorce where the papers have been served, but the divorce hasn’t gone through. It’s very awkward.” said Ross Brawn.
