With the NFL deadline quickly approaching (November 3rd) fans of the Arizona Cardinals were, for the most part, confident in their roster. Arizona (5-2) was coming off an impressive OT win over the previously unbeaten Seahawks, and veteran OLB Markus Golden was set to join the team. But that all changed when a Cardinals insider dropped this nugget Tuesday:
“Hearing the Cardinals may not be done upgrading their roster after all. Very interesting big name being brought up. Other teams may be involved as well though. Stay tuned!”
Let’s explore some of the options the Cardinals could be looking into:
CB Stephon Gilmore – Patriots
This trade would be the biggest splash, and would also demand the highest capital. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year would come with a hefty price, and would be a very win-now move for a young team, but this move could ultimately turn the Cardinals into deep playoff, if not super bowl contenders.
DL Quinnen Williams – Jets
Williams was considered the #1 player in 2019’s draft by some, and while he hasn’t led up to this expectation in production, he still has a ton of potential. He’s only had one full year of NFL coaching, and it came from the Jets. New York is reportedly asking for more than a 2nd round pick for him, which may make GM Steve Keim uneasy, but Williams could potentially be a huge upgrade in the interior D line.
CB Desmond King – Chargers
King was reportedly on the trading block for the Chargers this offseason, and the former all pro could be an instant upgrade at CB. He’s had 17 PDs and 3 INTs in only 23 career starts, and still has a lot of room to improve at age 25.
TE David Njoku – Browns
Njoku, who had an impressive week 1 before tearing his MCL and being placed on IR, has been a consistent name to come up in Cardinals trade talks. The 24 year old freaky-athletic TE could potentially be a cheap option to provide a downfield middle of the field threat.
DT Shelby Harris – Broncos
Harris is a name Cardinals fans may be familiar with, as many, including myself, expected the Cardinals to be interested in him during free agency. Harris ultimately decided to stay in Denver, where he’s put up a quiet 2.5 sacks and 8 QB hits. With Harris scheduled to become a free agent and the Broncos sitting at 2-4, the Cardinals may be able to buy Harris low for much needed interior pass rusher help.
