Reading Time: 2 minutes

As you might’ve heard, there will be no preseason due to COVID-19, meaning that all position battles will be decided during training camp, which has recently been reported to start on time. This is a blessing in disguise for Dallas as their coaching staff got an overhaul, (everyone besides offensive coordinator Kellen Moore) and the extra time will allow the team to adjust before the regular season.

Out of all the potential battles, three of them stand out in particular.

3. Kicker: Greg Zuerlein & Kai Forbath

Last season wasn’t one of the best for Cowboys kickers as for the majority of the season, former Cowboy Brett Maher was stinking it up with only making 20 of 30 field goals (67%). Kai Forbath came in at the end of the season for 3 games, making all 10 of his field goals and all 10 extra points.

Now, Forbath will be battling former LA Ram “Greg The Leg” Greg Zuerlein. Zuerlein has a career-long 61-yard field goal, and in a 2015 training camp scrimmage, Zuerlein made a 64 yarder which is an NFL record.

My Prediction: Greg Zuerlein

2.  Corner Back (1st String): Chidobe Awuzie & Jourdan Lewis

In 2019, Byron Jones was the starting CB, but he wasn’t re-signed after having too high of an asking price. Now that he’s gone, our second string CB’s will be battling it out. Jourdan Lewis didn’t get as much playing time as he should’ve during former DB coach Kris Richard’s tenure, as the coach preferred tall and lengthier corners.

Meanwhile, Chidobe Awuzie just needs to polish up his game a little and become more consistent.

My Prediction: Chidobe Awuzie

1. Center: Joe Looney & Tyler Biadasz

There is a large hole in the o-line after Travis Frederick (former Center) retired this past offseason. Joe Looney gained a year of experience in 2018 while Travis Frederick was recovering from his autoimmune disease.

If he continues to get more reps then he might be the man to fill that hole at offensive line, but keep an eye out for promising rookie Tyler Biadasz.

My Prediction: Joe Looney

Don’t forget to tune in to all of the drama and news during training camp, as the results could make or break the Cowboys season.
