The bar has been set for a Lamar Jackson contract as Patrick Mahomes recently signed a 10 year extension worth up to $503 million from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes get compared at every turn. Even Jackson has noticed, and while he doesn’t like the comparisons, it’s hard not to compare the two. They’re both former first round picks, second year MVPs, and Madden cover athletes. Both Patrick and Lamar are top quarterbacks in the league and are just hitting their primes. Lamar Jackson posses the talent and has the resume to receive a huge contract extension.
As I mentioned earlier, Lamar Jackson has undeniable talent, but he also has the stats to back it up. He’s coming off a phenomenal season in which he broke multiple records. To start, Lamar had 4,333 total yards and 43 total touchdowns. He’s the first quarterback in NFL history to record at least 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards. Lamar is also the third QB in history to score at least 35 passing touchdowns and 7 rushing touchdowns joining Steve Young (1994) and Cam Newton (2015). To cap it off, Jackson become just the second unanimous MVP in NFL history. It’s easy to say Lamar Jackson is a generational talent and definitely has the stats to prove it.
Lamar Jackson is a phenomenal player. After another hardworking offseason, he’ll only improve. It’s safe to say when Lamar Jackson and Eric Decosta start to negotiate, the Ravens franchise quarterback will be paid handsomely.
