Here are my top seven High School basketball teams in the nation:
1. Monteverde – This isn’t close. Monteverde is #1.They have SIX five stars. Cade Cunningham is one of the best players in the country. Day’ron Sharpe is a strong and physical big, and Scottie Barnes is a do it all forward. Zeb Jackson and Moses Moody are high four star senior guards. Langston Love is a five star guard. Lastly Dariq Whitehead and Caleb Houston are five star sophomores. Head coach Kevin Boyle is one of the best in the nation. The City of Palms will be a big test to this very talented team.
2. Paul VI – This team is good, and they proved by beating very highly ranked IMG. The backcourt of Duke commit Jeremy Roach and ‘Dug’ McDaniel is very good and speedy. Trevor Keels is one of the best players in the country, and his ranking doesn’t reflect how good he is. Keels had 25 points versus IMG and he finished with two clutch threes and forced IMG to call a timeout. The only problem with this team is size. Mark Williams exposed Paul VI, but all in all they are so good in the backcourt.
3. Prolific Prep – “The Crew” might just have the best player in the nation with superstar Jalen Green. Jalen Green is a sick athlete who can dunk on anyone. Namari Bennett is is a good combo guard who supports Jalen Green well. Also Saba Gigiberia is a big man who is committed to Georgia Tech. Frank Anselem and Jaden Jones are two more high level D-1 players. Winning by a combined 30 points against St. Marks and Hillcrest Prep is very impressive and they should look to keep rolling.
4. The Patrick School – Jonathan Kuminga is the #1 recruit in 2021 and he has offers from pretty much everywhere. Kuminga is a highly skilled and highly athletic forward, and he is the conductor of the team. Noah Farrakhan is a solid point guard and he is a very good defender and is a good passer / ball handler. Adama Sanago is a solid big man from Mali and three star and Bretener Mutumbo make a good power forward/center combination. Kuminga and co. will not have an easy time though, as they have to go through IMG, Sierra Canyon, Luhi and Roselle Catholic twice.
5. Sierra Canyon – This team is way more than just Bronny and Zaire Wade. This team is Ziaire Williams, Brandon Boston and a plethora of other talented players. Brandon Boston is elite and one of the best two guards you will find – while Ziaire Williams might be the best small forward in the nation. These two combined are in contention for the best wing duo in all of high school basketball. Terren Frank is a really solid player and Amari Bailey is a five star sophomore. Shy Odom, Bronny James and Zaire Wade are all solid rotation players.
6. Huntington Prep – Until this team proves otherwise they are good, they aren’t great or elite. Jaemyn Brakefield is a really good player and a future Duke Blue Devil. His partner Isaiah Cottrell is really good and is a four star power forward. AJ Hoggard had a really great summer and should look to build on the summer. Dudley Blackwell is a solid three star wing and Shane Dezonie is a very underrated junior.
7. IMG – This team has the potential to be really good but there not there yet. Jaden Springer is truly one of the best players in the nation and he is a great scorer and a good passer. Jalen Johnson is a point forward and he is another good player. Mark Williams, Moussa Diabate and Brandon Huntley – Hatfield is a great three man rotation. Moussa Diabate is a really talented shot blocker and a great defender in general. Mark Williams is really physical and is a good offense player down low. Huntley – Hatfield is a highly regarded sophomore. Jarace Walker is a really talented sophomore and Matthew Murrell are both good wing players. Look for this team to continue to get better.
