It’s no secret that since the Jaguars 2018 AFC championship appearance, the Jaguars have not been the same.
After a disappointing 6-10 season, the Jags have had a roller coaster offseason. Most fans only view the bad parts, and thanks to the media, all the Jaguars great moves this offseason have been swept under the rug.
First, the Jags cut DT Marcell Dareus, saving 20M in cap space, a huge move for them. They then signed MLB Joe Schobert, who had over 130 tackles and 4 interceptions last season. You should expect him to make a great duo with Myles Jack. Schobert and Jack become the building blocks for a new defense.
The Jags were also able to get rid of Nick Foles, after signing him to a horrible deal last off-season.
Meanwhile, Jacksonville had a GREAT draft. They were able to add great defensive prospects like OLB K’lavon Chaisson and CB C.J. Henderson in the first round. WR Laviska Shenault was an amazing pick in the 2nd round, becoming a great compliment to D.J. Chark and Dede Westbrook. They also picked up underrated prospects like DT Davon Hamilton, WR Collin Johnson, and MLB Shaq Quarterman.
Jacksonville has a young defense to build around, and playmakers like D.J. Chark to provide some short term success.
As long as management doesn’t repeat the same process of spending too much money too quickly like they did before, Jacksonville could potentially be AFC contenders down the road.
