Everyone knows that Texas runs High School Football… for now. Texas has been second to none in producing high school talent for a very long time. But a certain area is on the rise.
That area is the DMV (DC, MD, VA).
With prestigious private schools such as Gonzaga and Saint Johns, the DMV has always produced talent such as Stefon Diggs and Joe Haden, but the next few years could produce historic amount of elite talent. In the 2020 recruiting ranks the DMV had the number one ranked player in the nation and 6 players in the top 50 including 3 four stars and the highest-ranked 4 star in the country.
At that time, it seemed like the DMV talent was the best it’s ever been, but the 2021 class is even better. The DMV has the following talent:
#1 Ranked QB Caleb Williams (Washington, D.C.) Uncommitted
#1 Ranked CB Tony Grimes (Virginia Beach, VA) Uncommitted
#1 Ranked OT Tristan Leigh (Fairfax, VA) Uncommitted
#2 Ranked RB TreVeyon Henderson (Hopewell, VA) Ohio State Commit
#3 Ranked WDE Demioun Robinson (Gaithersburg, MD) Maryland Commit
#6 Ranked WR Dont’e Thornton (Baltimore, MD) Uncommitted
Right now (rankings are subject to change) The DMV has four 5 stars, and twenty-one 4 stars. If there is a fall season I’m sure there will be many 4 stars that get their fifth star and many 3 stars that get their fourth star.
While the current talent is amazing, let’s take a look to some DMV natives who have made it big in the NFL
Stefon Diggs (Olney, Maryland)
Michael Vick (Newport News, VA)
Ronde and Tiki Barber (Roanoke, VA)
Andrew Luck (Washington, D.C.)
NaVorro Bowman (District Heights, MD)
Vernon Davis (Washington, D.C.)
Kam Chancellor (Norfolk, VA)
Doug Flutie (Manchester, Maryland)
Frank Tarkenton (Richmond, VA)
Bruce Smith (Norfolk, VA)
Vontae Davis (Washington, D.C.)
With all of these players and many more coming from the DMV I can strongly say that the DMV is super underrated when it comes to producing talent. However, I think in these next few years the whole country will see just how talented it is.
