Reading Time: 3 minutes

This is a continuation of comparing players using Per 100 stats, Advanced stats, and Situations around these players. Oftentimes I’m trying to portray an underrated or overrated player.

Comparison 1

Player A:

Per 100: 33.4 points (50.8 FG%, 41.8 3P%, 80.8 FT%, 62.3 TS%), 0.4 ScoreVal, 8.3 assists, 10.7 Box Creation, 6.5 Passer Rating, 0.7 PlayVal, 4.3 turnovers, 6.7 rebounds (0.8 ORB, 5.9 DRB, 1.6 contested rebounds), 2.7 deflections, 1.1 steals, 0.9 blocks

Advanced: +2.4 RAPTOR (+3.7 OFF, -1.3 DEF), +2.9 EPM (+3.3 OFF, -0.4 DEF), +0.11 LEBRON (+1.52 OFF, -1.4 DEF), +0.86 RPM (+0.92 OFF, -0.7 DEF), +3.8 BPM (+3.8 OFF, +0.0 DEF)

Situation: 25.0 Spacing, 45.8 Playmaking, 51.8 Scoring Gravity, 97.0 Penetration, 1.1 Finishing at Rim

Player B:

Per 100: 28.1 points (43.9 FG%, 31.5 3P%, 65.6 FT%, 50.9 TS%), -1.3 ScoreVal, 14.9 assists, 11.1 Box Creation, 7.6 Passer Rating, 1.2 PlayVal, 6.1 turnovers, 14.6 rebounds (2.1 ORB, 12.5 DRB, 3.6 contested rebounds), 3.3 deflections, 1.7 steals, 0.4 blocks

Advanced: -1.7 RAPTOR (+0.4 OFF, -2.0 DEF), +1.4 EPM (+1.0 OFF, +0.5 DEF), +2.95 LEBRON (+1.79 OFF, +1.17 DEF), +2.03 RPM (+1.99 OFF, +0.05 DEF), +3.4 BPM (+2.5 OFF, +0.8 DEF)

Situation: 40.5 Spacing, 4.1 PlayMaking, 23.6 Scoring Gravity, 8.4 Penetration, 32.8 Finishing at Rim

Two shot-creating guards who did not play on good teams, both produced. Player A is clearly a way better floor spacer, while Player B is a slightly better playmaker. To put it nicely Player B is a pretty bad scorer and an even worse floor spacer. Player A is a good playmaker on and off the ball, but Player B is an awesome on-ball playmaker. Personally, I believe Player A is a better player.

Comparison 2

Player 1:

Per 100: 34.0 points (47.5 FG%, 37.1 3P%, 81.5 FT%, 57.3 TS%), -0.3 ScoreVal, 6.1 assists, 7.5 Box Creation, 5.4 Passer Rating, 0.2 PlayVal, 3.9 turnovers, 4.4 rebounds (1.4 ORB, 3.0 DRB, 1.3 contested rebounds), 2.5 deflections, 1.4 steals, 0.2 blocks

Advanced: -2.5 RAPTOR (+0.4 OFF, -2.9 DEF), -0.6 EPM (+1.0 OFF, -1.5 DEF), -1.13 LEBRON (+0.53 OFF, -1.66 DEF), +0.08 RPM (-0.61 OFF, +0.69 DEF), +0.0 BPM (+1.9 OFF, -1.9 DEF)

Situation: 9.2 Spacing, 40.3 PlayMaking, 22.5 Scoring Gravity, 29.3 Penetration, 23.3 Finishing at Rim

Player 2:

Per 100: 23.1 points (48.4 FG%, 44 3P%, 89.3 FT%, 60.2 TS%), -0.3 ScoreVal, 9.9 assists, 8.6 Box Creation, 7.2 Passer Rating, 1.0 PlayVal, 2.7 turnovers, 6.6 rebounds (0.7 ORB, 5.9 DRB, 0.8 contested rebounds), 3.6 deflections, 1.6 steals, 0.7 blocks

Advanced: +4.2 RAPTOR (+3.3 OFF, +0.9 DEF), +2.3 EPM (+1.7 OFF, +0.6 DEF), +0.18 LEBRON (+0.82 OFF, -0.64 DEF), +0.13 RPM (+2.23 OFF, -2.10 DEF), +2.6 BPM (+1.7 OFF, +0.9 DEF)

Situation: 89.7 Spacing, 22.1 PlayMaking, 69.8 Scoring Gravity, 1.5 Penetration, 89.9 Finishing at Rim

Considering the situation, Player 1 is a better scorer. His efficiency is impressive with the spacing around him. Player 2 is a better passer and playmaker. What is really odd is how their advanced stats compare where Player 2 clearly beats Player 1. It would be interesting to see how Player 2 would fare as more of a primary option.

Comparison 3

Player C:

Per 100: 23.3 points (62.6 FG%, 20.0 3P%, 76.9 FT%, 65.3 TS%), 1.0 ScoreVal, 2.3 assists, 2.4 Box Creation, 2.4 Passer Rating, -0.9 PlayVal, 2.4 turnovers, 17.0 rebounds (5.3 ORB, 11.6 DRB, 7.9 contested rebounds), 1.7 deflections, 1.0 steals, 54.3 DFG% >6, 1.9 blocks, 29 defensive versatility

Advanced: +1.0 RAPTOR (+0.0 OFF, +1.0 DEF), +2.3 EPM (+1.2 OFF, +1.1 DEF), +1.21 LEBRON (+0.71 OFF, +0.50 DEF), +1.38 RPM (-1.84 OFF, 3.22 DEF), +0.9 BPM (+0.9 OFF, +0.0 DEF)

Situation: 98.3 Spacing, 94.0 PlayMaking, 98.1 Scoring Gravity, 5.1 Penetration, 90.8 Finishing at Rim

Player D:

Per 100: 27.7 points (57 FG%, 25 3P%, 79.9 FT%, 62.6 TS%), 0.6 ScoreVal, 8.0 assists, 5.9 Box Creation, 6.9 Passer Rating, 0.6 PlayVal, 3.9 turnovers, 13.3 rebounds (3.3 ORB, 10.0 DRB, 5.5 contested rebounds), 3.4 deflections, 1.7 steals, 57.8 DFG% >6, 1.5 blocks, 49 defensive versatility

Advanced: +2.2 RAPTOR (+0.4 OFF, +1.8 DEF), +2.9 EPM (+1.2 OFF, +1.7 DEF), +2.15 LEBRON (+0.92 OFF, +1.22 DEF), +3.01 RPM (-0.77 OFF, +3.78 OFF), +4.7 BPM (+2.9 OFF, +1.9 DEF)

Situation: 94.6 Spacing, 93.6 PlayMaking, 78.6 Scoring Gravity, 15.6 Penetration, 85.9 Finishing at Rim

Player D is straight up a way better playmaker and a better defender. I would say that they are close as scorers. Player D is a better player, and there shouldn’t be much debate.

Player A: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Player B: Russell Westbrook

Player 1: Collin Sexton
Player 2: Cameron Payne

Player C: Deandre Ayton
Player D: Bam Adebayo
