With the news coming out today that Luis Severino will undergo Tommy John surgery, the Yankees should definitely look to be bringing in a big arm. It is true that Severino was out most of the 2019 season and the Yankees were still able to make the ALCS. They also signed prized free agent Gerrit Cole to a massive deal. The problem this year is that James Paxton will be out the first couple of months of the season with a back injury and fellow starter Domingo German is suspended for 63 games.

The Yankees rotation is still pretty strong with Cole, Tanaka, Happ and likely Jordan Montgomery and Jonathan Loaisiga finishing the rotation. The Yankees will still be the favorites to win the division and maybe even the AL, but now it is no longer a guarantee.

The Rays will definitely now have a chance to win the division. They too have a strong top of the rotation with 2019 Cy- Young award winner Blake Snell, Charlie Morton and Tyler Glasnow. They also brought in some outfield pieces to add some depth. The Astros, A’s and maybe even Mike Trout and the Angels are some teams that now have a chance to make some noise.

With all that said, the Yankees need to make a trade, and a trade with the Mets should definitely be in play.

They have been rumored to trade Noah Syndergaard for over a year now, and the Yankees should not stop calling on him just yet. He would be a terrific addition as he is a former all star,  has 2 years of control left on his current contract, could easily fit into the No. 2 spot in the rotation even when Severino returns. At times, he pitches like the league’s best.

The Yankees have the pieces to make this blockbuster trade. GM Brian Cashman could offer prospects Luis Gil, Deivi Garcia, former top prospect Estevan Florial maybe even Miguel Andujar who is coming off of a shoulder injury of his own, may all be some names discussed in a potential deal.

Syndergaard has had his own issues with the Mets during the past year. His main problem was pitching to Wilson Ramos due his poor splits with the catcher. The Mets did not put the two together for a little while, but they eventually did put this issue behind them because having Ramos in the lineup is a necessity for the Mets.

The Yankees have not won the World Series since 2009, although they have been close to bringing one back to the Bronx the last couple of seasons. If they finally want to get over the top, a trade is now necessary and Syndergaard is the perfect fit.
