Why Kaapo Kakko Will Have A Breakout Year Next Season

Reading Time: 2 minutesOn August 5th, the Rangers were swept in three games to the opposing Carolina Hurricanes, as their top line, including Sebastian Aho, cruised through the New York Rangers. The Rangers couldn’t get much momentum against their strong opponent.  However, one player in that series who really hit his stride with great potential was the Rangers 2nd overall pick, Kaapo Kakko. During the pause prior to this series, Kakko went back home to get some additional ice time with his coaches alongside teammate Alexander Georgiev.  Upon his return to training camp, the Coaching Staff of the New...

Is Alexis Lafrenière The Next Pavel Brendl?

Reading Time: 2 minutesIn the 1999 NHL Draft, the New York Rangers selected a “can’t miss” prospect with the fourth overall pick. His career will infamously live on in Rangers’ lure, however as one of the biggest draft busts in NHL history. Star in the Making Leading up to 1999 draft, Pavel Brendl was looked as if he would emerge as one of the next best players in the NHL. After scoring 134 points in 68 games as a 17 year old in the Western Hockey League (WHL), scouts were sure Brendl had what it took to become the next...

Breaking Down Alexis Lafreniere: The Future of the Rangers

Reading Time: 3 minutes The NHL Draft Lottery drama has finally concluded with the first overall pick headed to Manhattan. The Rangers will almost certainly select Alexis Lafreniere, unless approached with a deal from another team for the first overall pick.
The 18 year old Quebec native stands at 6 foot 1and weighs in at roughly 192lbs. A great size for an entering draft pick, while most kids have to be judged by potential size and ability, Alexis starts at a very good base and could become a great physical presence. Although it’s not a physical presence that gets you a “secured” first overall spot, Alexis put up 42, 37, and 35 goals for 80, 105, and 112 points in three seasons for the Rimouski Oceanic. He was the QMJHL MVP and CHL player of the year for his dominant performance in 13 playoff games, 9 goals and 14 assists for 23 points.

New York Rangers: How They Could Be A Stanley Cup Dark Horse

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe New York Rangers, the second youngest team going into this playoff bracket have some upcoming stars. I wanted to talk about how the Rangers can be a “Dark Horse” or an underdog team going into this playoff run. The Rangers are a very talented young roster and can be an underdog with a few scenarios: Goaltending Igor Shesterkin, who had a strong first impression with the Rangers posted a 10-2 record with a great .932% save percentage. Igor looked very comfortable in goal for the amount of starts he had.  He can be a huge...

What the NHL Draft Lottery means for the New York Rangers

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe recent NHL Draft Lottery was quite a shocker that had many fans turning their heads in question. The worst team in the league, the Detroit Redwings, ended up not getting the first overall pick with a very unpleasant record of 17-49-5 (39 points). The New York Rangers are now in an interesting spot of circumstances given the current playoff system. If New York loses, they have a chance at the #1 overall pick. But if they move on, their pick will most likely be a top 15 pick which is still beneficial because of how...
