The 2020 season is finally here and everyone was excited well, except Orioles fans. The Chicago White Sox have an off day today, and let’s take a look at how they began their season:
It started with the Minnesota Twins on Opening Day which involved a really – fun – first inning.
Minnesota Twins Series
Literally the first pitch, 365 feet home run with a Batting Average of .170. Yup, it’s one of those years. The Sox just couldn’t get out of that inning allowing five. It could have been avoided if Leury Garcia made a play. But what I really liked about our team is that we came back out and dropped a five piece on the Twins and that to me showed a lot.
In prior years the team would have rolled over and died but we showed a lot of heart to tie it up. Giolito had a rough outing just missing his spots and gave up nine baserunners in 3.2 innings and was done. Chicago ended up losing that game 10-5 even though their hitting received little to no luck.
The next day, the boys had an early game and they came to play. Dallas Keuchel looked amazing even though Grandal should have caught the soft-tossing lefty. McCann still was really great behind the dish. Leury made up for the last game by playing one of the best games of his career going 3-4 with 4 RBI and 2 Home Runs. The bullpen looked good as we jumped on theirs and their bullpen gave up 9 runs as we won 10-3.
The rubber match was a game that was really frustrating. Lopez was one out from getting out of the inning and just couldn’t do it and ended up getting hurt. The team didn’t play well, the pitching sucked and the hitting was mediocre. Not much to say…
Cleveland Indians Series
After a rainy day, the boys played a doubleheader where we just didn’t look good. Cease, who I thought was going to be good got shelled and we just couldn’t put together any run support. Our bullpen though throughout the whole series was amazing not giving up a run in 3 games.
The second game Rodon didn’t look good and punched a trash can after the first inning. His day was done after a short outing and we got no run support and lost 5-3.
The next game we looked really good. We had a lot of chances but couldn’t convert until they took out Plesac who was amazing and we hit their closer Brad Hand. Giolito is amazing against the Indians and that continued. Our pen was great but Colome got into a jam but pitched out of it.
Random fact big boss Ross Detwiler hasn’t allowed a baserunner this year.
All in all, I think in our games we have looked okay but not amazing, interested to see how our games go this next week.
