Now 15 games into the season, there is clear domination coming from Liverpool, being 8 points ahead from 2nd so early into the season. How could this be?
There is no doubt that Liverpool is one of the best – if not the best – in European football with the strong front 3 of Salah, Firmino, and Mané. The attackers Salah and Mané are clearly showing their worth being voted the 1st and 2nd best African Footballers of the year; first for Salah and 2nd for Mané, in both 2017 and 2018. Speaking of Firmino, he shows his worth as the perfect 9 in Klopp’s 4-3-3 system. Jürgen Klopp, the German, has led them to 2 Champions League Finals in a row and winning the 2019 Champions League.
As far as the recent Ballon D’or voting went, it was controlled by Liverpool players with 7 players receiving votes -including 4 in the top 11 performers of the year; showing again how good they are as a team. The top player receiving votes was star defender Virgil van Dijk, missing out on the award by only 7 votes. Last year, Van Dijk cemented himself as one of the best defenders in the world with a phenomenal season. Behind him (if anything actually got behind Van Dijk) is their goalkeeper Allison; the top goalie in Ballon D’or voting and 7th overall in votes.
Liverpool currently has a 14-1-0 record, and it doesn’t seem like they’re even going to lose this season in their current form, beating some very solid teams along the way – such as 2nd place Leicester City, and last years champions Manchester City. With talent like this, Liverpool could pull off a perfect undefeated season. Even if they don’t go unbeaten there is no denying this is one of the best football teams ever assembled.
