- Trevor Lawrence – QB, Clemson
The projected No.1 overall pick in the 2021 draft put on a show in the potential preview of the ACC Championship game against Miami (FL). Lawrence, along with Running Back Travis Etienne, dismantled the ‘Canes defense while putting up 42 points. Tossing three and rushing for one touchdown, Lawrence was locked in all night. Through four games, the 6-foot-6 Junior has yet to throw an interception while leading the Tigers to the No.1 overall ranking position. Clemson will take on Georgia Tech next Saturday as Lawrence looks to continue his Heisman chase.
2. Kyle Trask – QB, Florida
An underrated Heisman candidate slowly climbs up the power rankings. Kyle Trask, Quarterback of the 10th ranked Florida Gators is having an incredible Senior campaign. Second in the nation in passing touchdowns with 14 – only behind Texas’ Sam Ehlinger – Trask has no signs of slowing down. Completing 72% of his passes, the Gators Quarterback is approaching the 1,000 passing yard mark after just three games. If the Senior Quarterback keeps his consistent pace, he’ll have a strong shot of overtaking Trevor Lawrence for the top spot. Trask and the Gators welcome Myles Brennan and LSU next week in an SEC matchup.
3. Najee Harris – RB, Alabama
He doesn’t lead the nation in rushing, and his numbers probably aren’t mind-boggling like others, but Alabama Running Back Najee Harris bursted into the Heisman race last Saturday against Ole Miss. Not doing much on the ground game until now, Harris has certainly solidified himself as a Heisman contender. Against Lane Kiffin’s defense, Harris dominated with 23 attempts, 206 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Unable to be contained, this matches Harris’ touchdown total through the first two games. He will look to continue his hot hand against number 2 ranked Georgia next Saturday night.
4. Mac Jones – QB, Alabama
Junior Quarterback Mac Jones is over performing expectations placed on him prior to the 2020 season. Many assumed that Jones would be above-average at best this season, but through three games (with a 3-0 record) Jones is in serious contention for the Heisman award. Holding the second-best QBR in the nation with 95.3, Jones’ stock is on the rise. With over 1,100 passing yards and eight touchdowns, the production from the Crimson Tide Quarterback is second to none. Next week, Alabama will bring their undefeated record against number 2 Georgia in a Saturday Night showdown.
5. Sam Ehlinger – QB, Texas
Though giving his all but falling short in the Red River Showdown, Sam Ehlinger slides to No. 5 on the Heisman leaderboard. Besides his nation-leading 16 passing Touchdowns and 1,200+ passing yards, there isn’t much more to like from the Senior Quarterback. His completion percentage isn’t among the best as he has thrown four Interceptions in just as many games and time is ticking. As Texas sits 2-2, Ehlinger needs to flip the switch immediately if he wants to have a successful Senior season. Next Saturday against Baylor should be an opportunity for Ehlinger to get back on track.
