The 2019 / ’20 season looked like an especially promising one for FC Barcelona. However, little did we know that it was going to turn out the exact opposite.

It all started in July 2019 when Barcelona signed the Frenchman Antoine Greizmann from their rivals, Atletico Madrid. The thought of Griezmann pairing up with the likes of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi excited a lot of Barca fans. On top of that, this was the season the young but immensely talented dutchman Frenkie De Jong was set to join the squad.

Fast forward to present day and both these signings have been disappointments. De Jong has been hampered with injuries, and as for Griezmann, he has simply struggled to mesh with his new teammates all season. Add all this to the other numerous injuries Barcelona has dealt with and you can see why the players look like they lack chemistry compared to years past.

A Barcelona fan’s favorite thing to do these days is to blame to front office for how their season has turned out.

This may seem childish but when Lionel Messi, the greatest player in the world also joins in with the fans and shows anger towards the front office then it is fair to say the Barca board has some responsibility in the mess of this season. They have made questionable transfers and their decisions on the head manager of the club have also been questionable.

Even though all of this Barca had a chance to win La Liga, Spain’s ultimate prize. They had a slim lead on their ultimate rivals Real Madrid with only 6 games left to go, but with a series of very bad losses, Madrid won it. There is only one way Barcelona can fix this season and not go trophyless for the first time since the 2013/14 season.

Win the Champions League.

This may seem laughable to football fans given the current state Barca are in, but Barca themselves have no choice but to win arguably the grand prize of club football. They have no excuses either as most of their injured players have returned. If they fail to win however the effects will be colossal to say the least; the greatest player of all time, Lionel Messi may never wear a Barca jersey again after 2021 when his current contract ends.
