“I’m not sure what the future may hold, but as of now, I’m committing to Michigan State”
Emoni announced his commitment to MSU on ESPN at 1:40 ET on Monday with his family.
Many thought that this outcome was very unexpected because of his interest of going straight into the NBA, and rather signing with an agent. He has been considered one of the best recruits since LeBron James, while his play style is very similar to NBA superstar, Kevin Durant.
The 6’9″ 205 lb. small forward averaged 33.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists just as a sophomore. He won Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the year.
This is why he is the number one overall recruit for the class of 2022.
Nothing is set in stone for his future, but he is showing Spartan fans what they wanted to hear: that MSU was the college choice.
According to the rules right now, Emoni would not be able to go straight to the NBA from high school, but a rule change is seeming very likely by 2022 or 2023. If it goes through by 2022, Emoni could declare for the NBA draft out of high school and not go to Michigan State.
Another possibility for Emoni is to reclassify into the 2021 class to play for the Spartans a year earlier and still be in the 2022 draft class. Emoni‘s opinion on reclassifying is, “It really depends how this year goes… if it’s too easy, I might”. Also, his father mentioned that it has been a day-to-day thing on what he wanted to do.
Bates said, “I know they’re showing me love is genuine and they’ve just been here for a long time. I’m big on loyalty, and they showed me all loyalty, so I gotta show them love back.” This is a very promising statement for Spartan fans.
The number 1 overall recruit in the 2022 class, will be in the green and white, which is exactly what all Spartan fans have been waiting to hear!
