Joe Burrow was a great athlete as a kid, playing mainly football and basketball. Joe’s football coaches explained how he was originally on the defensive side of the ball until one of his teammates got injured, and Joe took the job. His coaches said that he was super smart on the field, so smart they were running the shotgun formation in elementary school.
Joe pursued football all throughout his high school career and came out as a 4-star, dual-threat quarterback.
On May 27, 2014, Joe committed to Ohio State University. He played at Ohio State for three years, starting until he suffered an injury and eventually lost the starting job.
When Joe found out Dwayne Haskins was going to be the starting quarterback for Ohio State in the 2018 season, Joe decided to transfer to LSU.
Joe still had competition there, but would end up beating out Myles Brennan for the starting job, and end up having a mediocre season with 2,894 passing yards, 16 TDs, and 5 INTs, but what no one expected was what was coming in the next year.
Joe Burrow talked all offseason about how good this LSU offense would be, saying they’ll score “40, 50, and 60” points per game. Joe’s dad retired from his job to watch Joe play his final season of college football, and said that it was going to be a “special season to watch.”
Turns out Joe and his dad were right, as he led LSU to a 15-0 season, defeating 7 top ten teams, and becoming SEC champs. But Joe and the Tigers weren’t done yet. Joe won the Heisman trophy and helped lead his team to defeat Oklahoma in the Semifinals 63-28.
The Tigers later defeated Dabo’s Clemson Tigers and became the 2019 CFB champions.
Joe ended the season with 5,671 passing yards, 60 TDs, and 6 INTs. Another thing that made this year better for the Burrows was Joe’s dad bet $2,000 at the beginning of the season that Joe would become the Heisman trophy winner.
He was the only one to bet on him, and won $400,000 because of it.
Joe has gone from a shadow in Ohio State’s deep QB class to a star at LSU, and the number one overall pick in the NFL 2020 draft. Joe has helped transform Louisiana and many other places for the better. Thank you Joe!
