The Washington Wizards are currently rock bottom and the future is not looking any better. The team around star guard Bradley Beal is mediocre at best and currently, there is no hope in sight for this franchise. Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard has to realize that the only way this team can get out of this hole is to trade Bradley Beal and start from scratch.
The Wizards don’t have the assets to try and improve this team and attempt to get another high caliber player to play alongside Bradley Beal and off-season acquisition Russell Westbrook. With Thomas Bryant out for the season with an ACL injury, the Wizards don’t have anything to give up that’s enticing to other teams besides Deni Avdija and Rui Hachimura. The team roster mixed with Scott Brooks questionable coaching and system is only chasing mediocrity and will never achieve anything greater than that.
Trading Bradley Beal is the best thing this franchise can do. Everyone in the league would be calling Tommy Sheppard to try and make an enticing package. Bradley Beal is a type of player that can fit in any system and in any role. Beal doesn’t need the ball to score at an elite level and statistics show that. At one point this season, Bradley Beal led the league in scoring but was not even top 20 in touches per game. There is no reason why the Wizards wouldn’t demand a package that is similar to what the Rockets got for James Harden. If anything, the Wizards could demand more than what Houston got because Beal has arguably more trade value than Harden due to scheme fit.
The Washington Wizards can net multiple first-round picks and swaps while also receiving young and promising talent. Teams that I believe would the most interested in Bradley Beal’s service would be the Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, and New Orleans Pelicans. The Wizards would be set for the upcoming future with a player like Michael Porter Jr or Tyler Herro while also having a tremendous amount of draft capital. The Wizards already have promising talent in Avdija, Hachimura, and Bryant. Getting more picks and young talent will set them up for success instead of just trying to be mediocre with Bradley Beal on the team.
