The 2020 NFL offseason was filled with tons of unprecedented headlines many never thought would never happen.

From Brady and Gronk leaving the Patriots to other stars like Jamal Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, and Stefon Diggs all being traded, this offseason was filled with crazy transactions. With these moves come big headlines and bold predictions, and as we enter the midway point of the season I’d like to go back and review how some of these headlines are making out.

Tom Brady to Tampa has worked out great so far, although many (myself included) had their doubts. Although the argument can be presented that Brady is only succeeding due to his large array of weapons and solid defence, the fact remains that Tom will get back to the playoffs, whether or not he’s a product of those around him or not. Admittedly, it’s still weird to see Tom in that Bucs’ uniform. Overall, I think things have gone better in Tampa Bay than many thought they would, and whether or not his teammates are the reason, Brady has done enough to get the Buccaneers in the driver’s seat for the NFC South.

The second headline is this years rookie receiving class. All the talk at the draft was about how good and deep this years group of wide receivers was, and they have yet to disappoint. CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Chase Claypool, Brandon Aiyuk, Justin Jefferson, and Tee Higgins have all made immediate impacts, just to name a few. This season had confirmed what I and many others already thought; this seasons WR rookie class will match 2017’s stacked RB class.

Lastly, the pandemic has taken a toll on the current NFL season. I’d like to say, it’s going much better than I thought. Although a few teams have had outbreaks, minimal games have been moved and none have been cancelled, unlike the MLB.

The NFL has done a great job at being versatile with the schedule to make sure all teams stay on track. The place where you can see COVID’s impact, however, is the injury list. Starting with an abnormal week two, the NFL has been destroyed with injuries to big stars like Nick Bosa, Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey. It’s clear to me that a large amount of injuries has at least something to do with the lack of preseason and conditioning that was lost due to COVID. Overall, however, I think the NFL has handled things well.
