Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a great start to the season, sharing first place with last year’s winners Liverpool at 24 points. Tottenham’s two most important players, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, have been on fire this season with a combined 31 goal contributions-in only 11 games played. It seems the magic of Jose Mourinho has struck once again, as Tottenham have earned 10/12 possible points against the top 6 clubs so far this season compared to a dismal  9/30 last season.

Without a doubt, the mentality has changed around the club, and Spurs are more than ready to fight for the title. There is one key player though, that has not been talked enough about, and that is Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. He has been controlling the midfield for Tottenham this season and has arguably been their best signing the past transfer window.

Højbjerg has been a rock for Tottenham’s midfield this season, being the only Spurs player to play all Premier League minutes this season. Controlling the game with elegance and grit, he is currently top five in tackles with 32 and top four in total complete passes with 792. Another intriguing stat: over 75 percent of Spurs goals this season have started from Højbjerg. Without a doubt, he has been class for Spurs, and with the passion and leadership Højbjerg shows, he is the perfect Mourinho player.

With Spurs needing a defensive midfielder since the dawn of time, purchasing Højbjerg at the small fee of £15m  + add ons, he has proven to be a crucial signing during the window. Tottenham are tied first for clean sheets (5) so far this season, thanks to all the dirty work done by the Danish international. As the Premier League title race begins to heat up, keep a close eye on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg who will play a pivotal role in the Spurs squad.
